As urgent care clinics continue to grow in popularity across the Georgia and the nation, some patients are discovering yet another way to seek the care they need without having to visit an emergency room or medical office: online doctors, on demand.
"I was really kind of skeptical at first, but it turned out really well," said Brenda Faccinetti, who made her first online doctor visit recently.
Using a computer with a built in camera and microphone, Faccinetti was able to visit with a doctor online, from her own home.
"She took very good care of me and I think it's a good way to go," she said.
Blue Cross Blue Shield implements that program in Georgia, which allows doctors from all over the country to visit with patients, as well as prescribe medications. The participating physicians are on an on-call schedule, meaning someone is available 24/7.
The cost is the same as a co-pay for a normal doctor's office visit. If you're curious about scheduling an online doctor visit, check with your healthcare provider to see if the service is available in your area.
